Senior Electrical Engineer - Design

$200,000 per annum

Role Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer – Design is responsible for leading the design and development of mission-critical electrical power systems (LV–MV) across a range of sectors including data centres, industrial facilities, and large-scale infrastructure projects.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise, ownership of design delivery from concept through to execution, and direct collaboration with customers to develop high-impact engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

• Lead the design of LV–MV electrical power distribution systems
• Produce detailed engineering deliverables, including:
• Single-line diagrams
• Electrical schematics
• Equipment layouts
• Technical specifications
• Perform:
• Load calculations
• Fault level analysis
• Protection coordination studies
• Design and integrate key systems such as:
• UPS systems
• Generators
• Switchgear

Project Delivery

• Manage and contribute to multiple concurrent projects (typically up to 10–15)
• Take ownership of design packages from concept through to production
• Ensure designs are delivered accurately, on time, and to required standards
• Collaborate with manufacturing and delivery teams to support execution

Customer Engagement

• Work directly with customers to develop and refine technical solutions
• Provide expert engineering input during early-stage project development
• Support bids and proposals, contributing to winning new business

Leadership & Team Support

• Mentor and support junior engineers
• Share technical knowledge and best practices
• Contribute to the development and scaling of the engineering function

• Deliver high-quality electrical designs with speed and accuracy
• Take ownership of critical design work, reducing dependency on senior team members
• Build strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders
• Contribute to successful project bids through technical excellence
• Support continuous improvement and growth of engineering capability

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential

• Significant experience in electrical design within one or more of the following:
• Data centres
• Power generation / power plants
• Hospitals
• Airports
• Industrial or manufacturing environments
• Strong experience with LV–MV power distribution systems
• Ability to independently produce complete design packages
• Proficiency in design tools such as:
• AutoCAD
• Revit
• SolidWorks (or similar)
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g., IEC, BS)
• Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with customers
• Proactive, adaptable, and solution-oriented mindset

Desirable

• Experience with protection and coordination systems
• Familiarity with SEL relay systems
• Experience working on mission-critical infrastructure projects

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
